“Adding the WOW factor to a room is very important if it is bland or doesn’t have any architectural elements. It is also important for rooms that are transient like this one, which means that when you walk past the hallway you would otherwise walk straight past it. This way you stop, linger, look around and fall in love with it.

One of the best ways to add the WOW factor, or add impact to a room is with pattern, and in this space I have done it with a rug. That chevron pattern on the floor catches your eye, but then your eye lifts up from that and you take in the rest of the space. It’s a powerful tool, but don’t overuse pattern.

You can use strong pattern in small ways, enough to add interest to the space and make you eye linger without being too overwhelming.”
