Taking Advantage Of Scale

In this case, it’s really a wide hallway, and it’s quite deep, so having a large sideboard like this with a large artwork on top of it, works perfectly and it actually helps balance the room. So, Scale here? Big tick!

So Scale is all about size. How things relate to each other, from small to big. But it’s also how items relate to the room they are in and everything else around it. But when it comes to IDFP we can use Scale as a powerful tool. It allows us to change something as simple as a clock into something amazing, making a real showpiece.

Now, I’m pretty happy with this room, but Scale is actually the key to its success; how it looks and feels. I’ve got one large artwork, which relates to the size of the sofa. On the other wall I’ve got three artworks, which are narrow, but long, so they make the ceiling feel higher. But the coffee table? What do you think… it’s so tiny, it doesn’t relate to the sofas and it actually makes the room feel poor. But check this out. Now, this is better. The coffee table is square, and this works much better because the Scale of the coffee table relates to the room it’s in. Now someone can sit there an imagine themselves leaning over and putting a drink or grabbing a book.

So, as you can see Scale is a very useful tool for all of us when it comes to using IDFP.
