The Mindset for Success

The mindset for success

If you’re anything like me, the end of a year feels more like the end of a marathon, and the last thing you’re thinking about is goals for the new year. Rest and relaxation, and time with my daughter and partner, is what I’m most looking forward to.  However, anyone who’s done my course knows how critical goal setting will be to your success. It’s absolutely essential when it comes to something as life-changing as renovating your way to riches!

So if you can snatch even a tiny window over the break to think about some of the things below, it could be that very first important step on the path to financial freedom. It’s fine to have short-term goals, but it’s your long-term goals that ultimately provide the big picture of where you want to be in 5, 10, 20 years’ time… And it’s that end goal that gives you the motivation and sense of purpose to stay on track.

Consciously retrain your thoughts

Mindset is such an important part of any big change. The seeds of success or failure are firmly rooted inside your own head. That’s right: the most valuable piece of real estate you can own is the 7 inches between your ears.

That’s why I encourage my students to have a Millionaire Mindset. And I believe that’s been a huge part of my success. Even when I seriously doubt myself, I push those negative thoughts aside and tell myself, “I can do this!” – and that’s half the battle right there. Silencing that critical inner voice.

So begin to consciously focus on a “I can do anything” frame of mind. Because you may not know it now, but YOU are the most important component of a successful renovation.

Start thinking about your goals for 2018

I want to share with you an exercise from my course. If nothing else, it will get you thinking about this question: Why am I considering renovating as a wealth creation option?

  • Purely to make money?
  • Sick of working for someone else?
  • To be my own boss?
  • More time with family?
  • A creative outlet?

Sadly, many of us are so focused on the day to day, we lose sight of what it’s all for. The years roll by in a blur of work, parenting, socialising, life’s challenges… and suddenly we’re 40, 50 and realise we’ve never actually had a long-term plan. Or a firm strategy in place to ensure we’re financially secure at the end of it all.

One of the most rewarding aspects of running Renovating For Profit courses for close to 10 years is witnessing all the students that have gone on to achieve incredible success and financial reward. Some decided to become professional renovators, chucking in their day job, as I did all those years ago, and throwing themselves into full-time renovating with gusto. Others just renovated a couple of times, manufacturing enough equity to achieve their goals. Many other students are still busily building multi-million dollar property portfolios that will set them up for life, doing small cosmetic renovations they’ve cookie cutted to perfection.

And all of that personal discovery and success didn’t happen by accident; it was sparked by a newfound awareness of what they wanted, the motivation to go out and achieve it, and the mindset for success.

So try and use just a little of the downtime ahead to reflect on your future goals, write them down here, and if you’ve been procrastinating about using property as your vehicle to financial freedom, make 2018 the year to make it happen!
